Timothy Fok Tsun-ting, First Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), officially closed the 9th Olympic Games on Friday evening. Asian Winter Games at a ceremony at the Harbin International Conference, Exhibition and Sports Center.
"This is a truly unique and enchanting part of China - not only for its beauty, but also for the hospitality of the local people." Fok said in his speech.
Games that started 7 February, welcomed more than 1 200 athletes from 34 countries, making it the largest in history in terms of number of participants.
Philippines have gained their the first gold medal in the history of the Asian Winter Gameswhen they defeated South Korea 5:3. China wins bronze after victory over Hong Kong 10:3. In the women's curling final she triumphed South Korea over China 7:2, the bronze went to Japan.
In ice hockey they defended their titles men of Kazakhstan a Women of Japan.
China dominated the medal standings with 32 gold, 27 silver and 26 bronze medals, followed by South Korea (16-15-14) a Japan (10-12-15). The host country has equalled the record the highest number of gold medals on the games that hold Kazakhstan from 2011.
Harbin hosted Asian Winter Games for the second time, for the first time in 1996. In the year 2007 the games were held in Changchun.
