Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China's model of high-quality development based on a high level of openness will bring new opportunities for Brazil to cooperate. He made the statement during a telephone conversation with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in which the two statesmen affirmed the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Xi recalled that in 2024, he and Lula announced the elevation of China-Brazil relations to a community with a shared future for a fairer world and a more sustainable planet. This cooperation has deepened significantly in the past year, he said, particularly through the alignment of development strategies and the strengthening of unity among countries of the global South.
The year 2026 also marks the beginning of China's 15th Five-Year Plan period. Xi stressed that China is ready to comprehensively deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with Brazil in a wide range of areas and take bilateral relations to an even higher level.
In the context of the tense international situation, he identified China and Brazil as key forces in the global South that contribute to safeguarding world peace, stability and improving global governance. Both countries, he said, should stand on the right side of history, uphold common interests and safeguard the central role of the United Nations, as well as international justice and equality.
Xi also reaffirmed China's long-standing commitment to be a reliable partner to the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean and to jointly build a community with a shared future between China and the LAC region.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in response, said that Xi Jinping's historic visit to Brazil in 2024 had taken relations between the two countries to a new level. He highlighted the progress in bilateral cooperation and expressed Brazil's readiness to further strengthen relations with China and cooperation between Latin America and China.
Lula described Brazil and China as important pillars of multilateralism and free trade. At a time of global uncertainty, he said Brazil was ready to work closely with China, to support the authority of the UN and to strengthen cooperation within the BRICS to safeguard peace and stability not only in the region but also in the world.
