According to a major global CGTN poll, the vast majority of respondents condemn the US attack on Iran's nuclear facilities. The intervention is described as a violation of international law and a direct instigation of chaos in the Middle East.
The "Midnight Hammer" military operation, in which the US Air Force used B-2 Spirit bombers against Iran's nuclear programme, has expanded tensions in the region to dangerous proportions. In doing so, the United States has not only moved from tacit support for Israel to direct involvement, according to many, but has also opened an imaginary Pandora's Box Middle East.
According to the CGTN survey, which involved 10,472 respondents from around the world over 12 hours, 91 % participants condemned the US attack accusing Washington of escalating tensions at a time when much of the world is calling for de-escalation of the Israeli-Iranian conflict. Nine out of ten participants considered the intervention to be violation of the UN Charter and undermining Iran's sovereignty and security.
Respondents also criticized Israeli military operationswhich 90 % of them said contributed to the deterioration of the situation in the region, while 84 % said that Israel was responsible for the worsening humanitarian crisis.
The survey also showed that 85 % respondents consider ceasefire an urgent priority, with 77 % expressing the belief that military solutions will not bring lasting peace. The way forward, they believe, must lead exclusively through political dialogue and diplomatic negotiations - whether on Iran or the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The call for accountability by world powers was supported by 91 % respondentswho stressed that leading states have an obligation to actively contribute to stopping the fightinginstead of passively witnessing the spread of violence.
The survey was published on CGTN's multilingual platforms - English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Russian - and reflects a significant shift in international opinion towards unilateral interventions in the region.
