Wang Yi (Wang I), a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at UN Headquarters in New York on 28 November local time.
Wang Yi said the world is focusing on the conflict between Palestine and Israel and paying attention to the role and actions of the United Nations. On the issue of the conflict between Palestine and Israel, China has always stood firmly on the side of peace, on the side of human conscience and on the side of international law, and supports the United Nations and the Secretary-General himself within the boundaries of the unique and irreplaceable role in resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. China also received the foreign ministers of Arab and Islamic countries who recently visited China together and reached a consensus to convene a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council as soon as possible. Wang Yi said that stopping the spread of war and preventing the spread of humanitarian disasters is a stance that every responsible country should take. This meeting of the UN High-Level Council on Palestinian-Israeli Security was organized by China at the request of Arab and Islamic countries and aims to promote security to build a consensus on ceasefire and ending wars at a higher level, speak with one voice and take more effective measures. The meeting comes at a critical juncture on the last day of the temporary ceasefire agreement. We must not allow the war to flare up again or more innocent civilians to be harmed. The meeting should send a clear message in this regard. All parties should support a smoother and more sustainable flow of humanitarian supplies to Gaza and alleviate the local humanitarian crisis. I know how to do this on Palestinian issues. China is willing to work with all parties to actively pursue this.
