Wang Yi, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.
Wang Yi stated that under the strategic leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin, Sino-Russian relations have boldly overcome challenges and achieved a high level of multidimensional and high-quality development. In particular, the two countries unanimously agreed to resolutely defend the achievements of the Second World War and firmly oppose any regressive attempts to justify colonial aggression, thereby sending a strong appeal for justice in our time.
As permanent members of the UN Security Council and comprehensive strategic partners in the new era, China and Russia must continue to coordinate and cooperate to resolutely counter the provocative actions of Japanese far-right forces that undermine peace and stability in the region and seek to remilitarise it.
Wang Yi said that President Vladimir Putin had just signed a decree abolishing visa requirements for Chinese citizens, which clearly demonstrates the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia in the new era. This measure will further facilitate people-to-people contacts between the two countries and promote cooperation in various fields.
Next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia strategic partnership and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation between China and Russia, which represents a new historical opportunity for the development of China-Russia relations.
Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia firmly adheres to the One China principle and strongly supports China's position on the Taiwan issue. He expressed Russia's willingness to use next year's 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation between Russia and China as an opportunity to intensify high-level exchanges, deepen practical cooperation, strengthen people-to-people contacts and achieve mutually beneficial and fruitful results.
