At its meeting on Wednesday, the Government of the Czech Republic, led by Prime Minister Petr Fiala, adopted several key decisions. Among the main points are the inclusion of Russian citizen Oleg Sergeyevich Osipov on the national sanctions list, an increase in the salaries of members of the Customs Administration, the Prison Service and the General Inspectorate of Security Forces (GIBS) and the approval of the tunnel option for the completion of the north-eastern part of the Prague ring road.
Sanctions against Oleg Osipov: Reaction to threats and support for Russian aggression
The Cabinet has decided to add Oleg Sergeyevich Osipov, a long-time associate of former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, to the national sanctions list. The reasons for this are his active support for activities undermining Ukraine's sovereignty and death threats against Czech citizen Dominik Hašek. "If someone threatens our citizens with death, they are not welcome in the Czech Republic," said Prime Minister Petr Fiala. Osipov has been banned from entering the Czech Republic and the government is now seeking to have him added to the EU sanctions list.
Salary increase for security forces: stability and attractiveness of the profession
The Government also approved a new systemization of the Customs Administration, the Prison Service and the GIBS, which includes an increase in the stabilization supplement of CZK 3 000 per month for members of these corps. The move follows an earlier decision to increase the salaries of soldiers, police officers and firefighters from 1 July 2025, with the aim of ensuring the competitiveness of these professions on the labour market and attracting new applicants for service. "We want people serving in the security forces to have decent conditions and the motivation to stay," emphasised Prime Minister Fiala.
Completion of the Prague Ring Road: Tunnel Option for the Northeast
Another important decision was the approval of the tunnel route for the completion of the north-eastern part of the Prague Ring Road in the Březiněves-Satalice section. This option was chosen taking into account the requirements of the local authorities and the inhabitants of the affected municipalities in order to minimise the impact on the environment and quality of life. The construction of the ring road is crucial for improving the transport infrastructure in Prague and its surroundings.
Strategic framework for cohesion policy and other agenda items
The Cabinet also launched a discussion on the Strategic Framework for Cohesion Policy 2028+, which is of crucial importance for negotiations with the European Commission on the rules of cohesion policy. This document will help the Czech Republic to promote the interests of its regions in the new programming period. The government also approved the regulation on tests under the Arms and Ammunition Act, effective from 1 January 2026, and discussed opinions on the findings of the Supreme Audit Office.
