Since China launched the Global Governance Initiative last September, more than 150 countries have signed up. According to Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, who spoke on 19 January, today's world faces increasingly complex and serious challenges. That is why China is ready to join forces with other countries to push the implementation of this initiative towards deeper and more practical cooperation.
Sun Weidong stressed that China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a responsible power, has consistently promoted genuine multilateralism and actively advocated the reform and improvement of global governance. The aim is to strengthen the international system based on cooperation, equality and respect for international law.
The Global Governance Initiative has already gained broad international support and China is ready to work with other partners to further deepen and concretely implement it. At the same time, however, Sun Weidong pointed out that some national leaders are publicly questioning the post-war international order and trying to revive militarism. Such tendencies, he said, will inevitably meet with determined resistance from peaceful and just forces.
China wants to work with relevant countries to build an Asian security model based on common security, respect for differences, seeking common interests and resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation. At the same time, it stressed that it would not allow any force to disturb the peace and stability of the region or allow wars or chaos to break out in its immediate vicinity. In this context, China intends to strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorism, interference in the internal affairs of states and unilateral sanctions, in order to safeguard international peace and stability together with its partners.
