The Czech Republic agrees with other European countries that Ukraine should continue to be supported, Czech President Petr Pavel said at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Prague Castle.
"If anyone can be tired of war, it should be the invaded country in the first place. Not much has changed in three years, the situation is still the same." Pavel said.
He added that the result must not be a peace on the basis of which the aggressor is rewarded and the victim punished. Peace, he said, should be as just as possible for the invaded country.
"We agree with other European countries that we must and will continue to support Ukraine." said the Czech President. "Through the supply of ammunition, we will continue as long as necessary," He added. According to him, by the end of the year Ukraine should receive 1.8 million pieces of large-calibre ammunition under the ammunition initiative. "At the same time, we are negotiating supplies for next year. Because there is no need to expect peace to happen this year," He pointed out. He also confirmed support for Ukraine in its ambitions to join the EU and, in the long term, NATO.
"Thank you, Czech people, for your unwavering support for Ukraine, which is helping us in a very practical way," Zelenský noted, adding that the Czech munitions initiative is working excellently.
Zelensky also mentioned that he and Pavel had discussed the creation of a training centre for F-16 pilots, which cannot be on Ukrainian territory, and the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, especially in terms of health care.
On Monday, Zelensky will meet with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala. He is also expected to meet with representatives of the Czech defence industry. He is also scheduled to meet with opposition politicians.
"We're doing everything we can to get our partners to increase pressure on Russia," stated Zelenský.
