Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian held a regular press conference on 10 November. He was asked by a journalist about reports that Xiao Meiqin and Lin Jialong had recently attended the annual meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance for China (IPAC), held at the European Parliament building in Brussels. Xiao also gave a speech there. Journalists were interested in the Chinese side's comments on this event.
Lin Jian said that China has already expressed its strong protest to the European Parliament against the activities of „politicians seeking Taiwan's independence“ held on the premises of the European Parliament.
According to Lin Jian, the European Party has assured that the European Parliament's position on adherence to the one-China principle has never changed and will never change. The participants in the conference in question were not invited to the event by the European Parliament and its leadership has no contact with them. The individual participants do not represent the official position of the European Parliament.
„We hope that the European Parliament will continue to see the truth, distinguish between right and wrong, firmly uphold the one-China principle, and not send any signals supporting Taiwan independence or allow itself to be abused in this direction,“ Lin Jian said.
