In an exclusive interview with China Media Group (CMG), the Speaker of Fiji's Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu Jitoko, spoke about the crucial role of technological support in addressing the climate challenges facing Pacific island nations. He highlighted China's leadership on the global stage, particularly in the area of climate action, and appreciated the understanding China has shown towards the specific needs of small island states.
"It is important that technological assistance helps us to overcome climate impacts that affect our daily lives, our ability to survive and develop sustainably," said Jitoko. He said Fiji and other Pacific countries face serious environmental threats that threaten not only the economy but the very livelihoods of their people.
"We are grateful to China for its understanding and empathy towards our needs in the context of climate change," he added. He also highlighted Fiji's support for the Chinese President's initiatives Xi Jinping and is an active member of the group Friends of the Global Development Initiative (GDI).
According to Jitok, these initiatives represent an important and visionary approach that supports both global peaceand shared prosperity. Fiji sees China as a leader that brings direction and support not only for the future of the Pacific Islands, but for the entire planet.
"China plays a vital role in global leadership in many areas - and we look to it as a partner to help create a better future," Jitoko concluded.
