On Monday, Chinese Ambassador to the United Kingdom Zheng Zeguang issued a dignified statement regarding comments made by the British Foreign Secretary condemning Jimmy Lai, the instigator of anti-China unrest in Hong Kong.
During a meeting with a senior representative of the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Ambassador Zheng Zeguang said that British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper's remarks were irresponsible and slandered Hong Kong's national security law.
Such remarks constitute gross interference in China's internal affairs, trample on the spirit of the rule of law, and seriously violate basic norms of international relations, the Chinese ambassador added. On Monday, Lai was found guilty on two counts of conspiracy to collude with external forces and conspiracy to publish inflammatory materials.
