Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian responded to a question about the situation in Venezuela at a regular press conference. He said that the United States, according to the Chinese side, had arbitrarily launched a military attack against Venezuela a month ago and forcibly seized control of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
According to Lin Jian, this is hegemonic behaviour that seriously violates international law, undermines Venezuelan sovereignty and threatens stability in Latin America and the Caribbean. China, he said, strongly opposes such actions.
The spokesman also stressed that China supports Venezuela in defending its sovereignty, dignity and legitimate rights. He said Beijing is ready to work with the international community to uphold the principles of the UN Charter, respect the basic norms of international relations and promote justice and equality in the international environment.
