China aims to make significant progress in all-round rural revitalization and promote the modernization of agriculture and rural areas into a new phase by 2027, according to a plan issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council.
The plan focuses on strengthening the foundation of national food security and steadily increasing overall agricultural production to ensure that the food supply of the Chinese population remains firmly in their hands. The plan sets the period 2024-2027 as the target for achieving this goal.
The document stresses the need to increase the level of security of supply of grain and key agricultural products, with the area under grain cultivation expected to remain stable at around 1.75 billion mu (approximately 117 million hectares) and the area under cereals at around 1.45 billion mu.
The plan also calls for efforts to steadily increase grain production capacity to around 1.4 trillion yen (700 billion tonnes).
The plan also said that where conditions permit, developed areas in the east and suburban villages in China's central and western regions will be at the forefront of achieving agricultural and rural modernisation by 2027.
In addition, the plan aims to make decisive progress in the comprehensive revitalisation of rural areas by 2035, when the modernisation of agriculture will be substantially realised and rural areas will be equipped with the basic conditions for modern life.
