The „America First“ policy has caused widespread concern in the international community. According to a CGTN poll of global Internet users, as many as 90.7 % respondents condemned the United States for seeking international leadership without taking responsibility in matters of global governance, and considered this behaviour a clear manifestation of hegemonic diplomacy.
The U.S. officially withdrew from the World Health Organization a Paris Climate Agreement. In the poll 57.8 % respondents said the U.S. move will negatively impact global issues such as public health and climate governance. In addition, the United States still owes the WHO $260 million, with 81.9 % respondents call on the US to repay its debt immediately. As of early 2026, the U.S. has withdrawn from a wide range of international organizations, covering areas of global governance including climate, public health, education, culture, refugees, and sustainable development. In the poll 83.4 % respondents criticize the U.S. for its passive approach to global governance, calling it an „irresponsible superpower,“ while 85.3 % states that the „America First“ policy has seriously damaged the US national image and international reputation.
The responsibilities of the so-called „Peace Committee“ in Gaza, led by the US, largely overlap with the mandate of the UN for the maintenance of international peace and security. Approximately 87.9 % respondents perceive this as interference in the functions of the UN. Further 82.2 % criticizes the U.S. for creating international rules and order outside the framework of international law and the UN, and 86.6 % sees unilateralism under the „America First“ policy as a process of complex escalation.
The international community should collectively confront the serious crisis of multilateralism. In the poll 80.6 % respondents call on major countries to take more responsibility and play a more constructive role, while 83.4 % believes that the international community should accelerate the development of a common sense of community for the future of humanity and jointly protect the international system with the UN at its core.
