A significant international event took place in Johannesburg, South Africa. The fifth edition of the book Xi Jinping: The Governance of China took centre stage, with a ceremonial launch in English attended by around two hundred guests from political, academic and social circles.
The participants agreed that the fifth volume captures the latest developments in Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and describes in detail China's path to modernisation. According to them, the publication offers valuable inspiration, especially for countries in the Global South that are seeking their own model of development and effective state governance.
Strong emphasis was also placed on cooperation between China and South Africa. As key members of the BRICS group, both countries want to jointly implement ten partnership steps to support modernisation, develop major global initiatives and contribute to the economic and social revival of the global South and to the vision of modernising relations between China and Africa.
South African Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Maropene Ramokgopo She emphasised that the book addresses key issues such as the fight against poverty, development cooperation, technological innovation and long-term modernisation strategies. According to her, it provides a unique insight into how China is responding to the global challenges of today's world.
President of the National Assembly Cedric Frolick He then praised the publication for offering a comprehensive plan for China's future development while also outlining its foreign policy priorities. He considers the ideas focused on people, green development, shared prosperity and building a community with a shared future to be inspiring for other countries as well.
The event included a ceremonial presentation of copies of the book to guests and expert discussions on sharing experiences with modernisation, global governance and high-quality cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative. The event was jointly organised by the State Council Information Office of China, China International Communications Group and the Chinese Embassy in South Africa.
