Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on the BRICS countries to strengthen unity and cooperation and to become the most reliable force in protecting the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.
Wang made the remarks at the 15th BRICS Senior Officials Meeting on Security Affairs in the Brazilian capital Brasilia.
He added that under the new global circumstances, more and more countries are willing to listen to the voice of BRICS and hope to enter the BRICS door.
He also pointed out that the transactional approach in international politics and the weaponisation of global trade will only exacerbate the crisis of trust between countries and threaten global security. "Appeasement leads nowhere and unity is where hope lies," He added.
Wang urged the BRICS countries to work together to defend the right to development, take the lead in unity and cooperation, and safeguard multilateralism, noting that they should clearly distinguish themselves against the rejected power and ensure the right and space for developing countries to develop.
The other parties at the meeting agreed that the BRICS countries should reach consensus and work together against all forms of bullying, interventionism and tariff abuse, maintain multilateralism, defend the common interests of the Global South and work together to build a multipolar world of peace, security, justice and balance.
