Ukraine's SBU secret service says that on the morning of June 3, 2025, it attacked the pillars of the Crimean Bridge, a key transport link between Russia and the Crimean peninsula.
According to an SBU statement posted on the social network Telegram, agents managed to place more than one ton of explosives on the bridge's pillars underwater.
The first explosions were detonated at 4:44 local time, and according to the SBU, serious damage was caused to the bridge structure, which is now reportedly in a state of disrepair. The operation is said to have taken several months and was coordinated by SBU chief Lieutenant General Vasyl Malyuk.
The Crimean Bridge, built by Russia after its annexation of Crimea in 2014, is considered by Ukraine to be an illegal construction and a symbol of Russian military expansion. The bridge is used for road and rail transport, through which Russia supplies its troops in Crimea.
Reuters, which picked up the information, notes that the SBU's claims cannot yet be independently verified. The Russian authorities have not responded directly to the statement, but RIA Novosti reports that they have announced a temporary halt to road traffic on the bridge and have suspended the navigation of civilian ships at the port of Sevastopol.
The incident is the third attack on the bridge since the war began in 2022, with previous explosions caused by a truck and a naval drone. The impact on Russian supplies is not yet clear.
