The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) said in a statement that people across the Gaza Strip are at risk of famine as the conflict escalates again, border crossings in the Gaza Strip remain closed and food is extremely scarce.
Since 2 March, when all aid to Gaza was banned, hunger and malnutrition on the ground have worsened significantly.
The statement said that 470,000 people in Gaza are suffering from catastrophic hunger and the population throughout the region is at serious risk of food insecurity.
The UN World Food Programme (WFP) and UNICEF thus call on all parties to put the needs of the population first and allow immediate access of aid to Gaza and to fulfil their obligations under international humanitarian law.
