Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Queen Letizia of Spain, who is accompanying King Felipe VI of Spain on a state visit to China, visited the Beijing Demonstration Center of Service for Persons with Disabilities on Wednesday.
During the visit, the two guests heard presentations of projects for people with disabilities and viewed a thematic exhibition for the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games. They then headed to an exhibition hall with high-tech products to support people with disabilities and a non-commercial reading room to learn about the application of assistive devices, reading activities for children with disabilities and the development of barrier-free facilities in the country.
Peng and Letizia warmly met people with disabilities who participated in training in baking, making handicraft items and painting. They also visited children with disabilities who were undergoing rehabilitation training. In a warm and friendly atmosphere, children with visual impairments sang a Chinese song to the guests Songs and Smiles.
Peng stressed that helping people with disabilities requires a concerted effort and support from all sides to better integrate them into society. She also expressed her wish that China and Spain strengthen the exchange of experiences and cooperation in fulfilling the dreams of persons with disabilities.
Queen Letizia took a close interest in the development of disability care in China, especially the employment of women with disabilities, and highly appreciated China's achievements in this field.
