George Floyd's death sparked long-running, mass demonstrations across the US against police brutality and protests against racial discrimination, demanding that the government reform the police.
On the fifth anniversary of his death, however, the U.S. Justice Department instead announced that it was no longer in the public interest and cancelled the agreement that was supposed to oversee police reform in Louisville and Minneapolis. The Justice Department also ended investigations into civil rights violations in six regional police departments, including Memphis and Phoenix.
George Floyd's family and his lawyers in Houston, Texas, said they are not giving up the protests and will continue to press the government to continue reforming the US police.
