At a meeting at the United Nations in New York, Chinese Premier Li Qiang expressed his readiness to work with all countries to implement the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and accelerate the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda. He stressed that the world faces growing unilateralism and protectionism, which threaten international development, and called for renewed cooperation and an open world economy.
Li recalled that the GDI was introduced by President Xi Jinping in 2021 to promote common development and equitable sharing of the benefits of globalization. More than 130 countries and organizations have already joined the project. The Premier called for creating a stable environment for development, fair partnership and strengthening science and technology cooperation.
He placed particular emphasis on promoting green growth and barrier-free innovation so that progress truly serves all of humanity. China, he said, will remain an active promoter of sustainable development, strengthen investment, science and technology cooperation and contribute to green transformation.
Participants at the meeting praised China's contribution to WTO reform, its AI initiatives and its support for the Global South. In the final declaration, the countries committed to deepen cooperation in the GDI and jointly meet the UN 2030 goals.
