Vojtěch Filip, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Czech-Chinese Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, positively evaluates reaching an agreement between the European Union and China on the sale of electric cars. In response to a question, he said: „That's a pretty fundamental thing.“
According to Filip, this event proves that the basis of cooperation not only in Europe, but also in the world, is not tariff wars, but agreements and diplomatic negotiations, including trade ones. „When it comes to cooperation between China and the European Union, you can't do it without agreements,“ He added.
He identified the rules of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), i.e. the Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, as the basic framework. According to him, it is primarily about the mutual possibility of free exports to each other's markets. „It is something that is pushing European industry to innovate further and also to cooperate more closely in the details,“ he explained.
The President of the Chamber expressed his delight at the agreement itself and at the fact that Europe - unlike the US - prefers negotiations to a tariff war and is seeking mutually beneficial trade. „I am convinced that this agreement has contributed to that,“ He said.
„We're not at the end, we're at the beginning,“ Filip concluded, adding that if Europe does not change the rules of its Green Deal, it will probably be possible to achieve its goals through cooperation with the People's Republic of China.
