The U.S. Department of Labor reported that employers in the United States created 177,000 new jobs in April, while federal government employment continued to decline and the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.2 %.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, total nonfarm employment increased by 177,000 jobs in April.
The report said employment continued to trend up in health care, transportation and warehousing, financial activities and social assistance. Employment in the federal government declined.
Within the federal government, employment was down 9,000 in April and is down 26,000 since January, the report said.
As Donald Trump's administration continues to reduce the number of federal employees, these figures could be negatively impacted in the coming months.
In April, average hourly earnings for all employees in the private nonfarm sector increased by six cents, or 0.2 %, to $36.06 (CZK 794). Over the past 12 months, average hourly earnings have increased by 3.8 %.
The change in total nonfarm employment for February was revised down by 15,000 to an increase of 102,000 and the change for March was revised down by 43,000 to an increase of 185,000. After these revisions, employment in February and March combined is 58,000 lower than previously reported.
