Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that in view of the EU's decision to stop importing Russian natural gas from 2028, the Slovak government will consider the possibility of legal action against the EU on this issue at the next cabinet meeting.
Prime Minister Fico has already asked the Slovak Minister of Economy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Attorney General to present a document analysing the feasibility of the negotiations at the next cabinet meeting.
At the EU Council meeting on 20 October this year, EU energy ministers approved a proposal that the EU will phase out imports of Russian natural gas by January 2028.
PM Fico also said that the next topic at the 26 November cabinet meeting would be the issue of Russian assets frozen in the EU. He reiterated his call on the European Commission and all parties involved to show maximum legal and political restraint.
