US President Donald Trump has announced that he has agreed to the European Union's request to extend tariff negotiations until 9 July. Trump described the talks with the European Union on tariffs as "very pleasant".
Trump said European Commission President Von der Leyen said during a phone call: "We'll be in touch quickly to see if we can reach an agreement." Trump responded that he agreed to her request for an extension.
Von der Leyen said the call with Trump was "good" and that the EU was ready to speed up trade talks with the US, but that reaching an agreement would take more time.
The postponement shows that both sides still want to preserve negotiating space to avoid an escalation of trade tensions. Total trade in goods and services between the EU and the US exceeds USD 1.1 trillion and is widely regarded as one of the most important economic partnerships in the world.
