Retail sales increased by 6.2 % yoy in real terms in December and by 1.2 % m-o-m. Sales and repair of motor vehicles fell by 0.5 % y-o-y and by 1.0 % m-o-m. For the full year 2024, retail sales increased by 4.6 % and motor vehicle sales and repairs increased by 1.2 %.

Month-on-month sales in retail trade, except of motor vehicles increased by 1.2 % in real terms in December, with non-food goods rising by 1.5 %, food by 1.1 1 % and fuel by 0.2 %.
Year-on-year, retail sales increased by 6.2 % in real terms in December. Sales of fuel and non-food goods rose by 8.1 % and 2.7 %, respectively.

"Retail sales adjusted for price effects recorded annual growth of 6.2 % in December. The increase was driven by sales of fuel, non-food goods and food. For the full year 2024, retail sales rose by 4.6 %. Internet and mail order sales contributed the most to the growth," Says Jana Gotvaldová, Head of the Statistics of Trade, Transport and Services Division of the CZSO.
Sales in specialised stores selling cosmetics and toiletries increased by 13.2 %, clothing and footwear by 4.4 %, culture, sport and recreation by 3.9 %, pharmaceutical and medical goods by 2.3 % and household products by 1.7 %. By contrast, sales in computer and communication equipment stores fell by 0.2 %. Sales in non-specialised food-dominated stores increased by 3.0 % and in specialised food stores decreased by 0.5 %. Sales in non-food-dominated non-specialised stores increased by 14.0 %. Internet and mail order stores increased by 18.2 %.

Revenue for the sale and repair of motor vehicles real month-on-month, down by 1.0 %.Year-on-year, sales decreased by 0.5 %, with sales of motor vehicles (including spare parts) down by 1.1 % and motor vehicle repairs up by 1.7 %.
For the full year 2024, retail sales increased by 4.6 % y-o-y in real terms, with non-food goods up by 6.1 1 %, fuel up by 5.1 1 % and food up by 2.4 %. Sales and repairs of motor vehicles increased by 1.2 %, including 2.7 % for repairs of motor vehicles and 0.8 % for sales of motor vehicles (including spare parts).
