Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his German counterpart Johann Wadephul hold the eighth round of the Sino-German Strategic Dialogue on Diplomacy and Security in Berlin.
As the world's second and third largest economies, China and Germany bear important international responsibilities and should jointly strive to strengthen mutual trust, consolidate bilateral cooperation and deepen bilateral relations, said Wang, who is also a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
In the face of rising protectionism, anti-globalisation and unilateral bullying, the two countries should strengthen strategic communication and cooperation to bring more security to the world through the stability of Sino-German relations, he noted.
Wang also called for advocating and promoting genuine multilateralism, protecting the international system with the UN at its core, preserving the international order based on international law, and upholding the basic norms of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
Wang stressed the importance of maintaining mutual respect, seeking common ground while preserving differences and achieving win-win cooperation, urging the two sides to strengthen mutual trust and resolve differences in a calm and rational manner.
The Chinese Foreign Minister called on Germany to adhere to the One China principle and praised the new German government's positive and rational attitude towards the development of relations with China.
Germany will positively seek to promote China-EU relations, he said, expressing hope that Germany will continue to play a constructive role in the development of China-EU relations.
Wadephul said it is very important for Germany and China to maintain close communication and cooperation amid the current global challenges.
Wadephul noted that the two countries can properly address differences with mutual respect and a constructive attitude, and said Germany looks forward to maintaining close exchanges with China and continuing to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
"The German government is holding fast to the one-China policy," Wadephul added.
The two sides also exchanged detailed views on issues such as the Ukraine crisis, the Iranian nuclear issue, the situation in the Middle East and multilateral strategic cooperation, and agreed to continue close communication and coordination to help promote ceasefires and peaceful resolution of disputes.
