Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng said Tuesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that China's development is an opportunity, not a threat, and that China is willing to use its market advantages and share its opportunities with other countries.
He Lifeng added that China is guided by the principles of equality, mutual benefit and problem-solving through consultation to produce win-win outcomes.
Since joining the World Trade Organization (WTO), China has not sought any negotiating advantages, He said, adding that the country firmly adheres to the WTO's long-standing principles and seeks cooperation in addressing development challenges.
The Deputy Prime Minister also stressed that China will continue to expand its opening, and its doors will open even more. The country will actively adapt to high international standards and rules, and create a market-oriented and internationalized business environment, with domestic and foreign companies being treated equally.
China also hopes that foreign countries will create favorable conditions for Chinese enterprises.
China's economy and trade remain resilient in the face of global challenges
China on Monday said its economy grew 5 percent in 2025 despite domestic and external challenges, showing a trajectory of resilient and stable growth and confirming its position as a major global economic power.
Analysts consider this result remarkable in light of the tariff war with the US and highlight the flexibility and resilience of the Chinese market.
China's GDP reached a record 140.1879 trillion yuan (about $20 trillion) last year, the National Bureau of Statistics said.
„The description of China's economic performance in 2025 could be summed up in one word - resilience,“ He told Sandile Swana, South African governance and policy analyst.
John Bryson, an expert in economic geography and professor at the University of Birmingham, said: „Some commentators may be surprised by this result given the tariff war waged by (US President) Donald Trump. However, this five per cent growth shows that Chinese politicians, policymakers and companies have been able to respond flexibly.“
„China has been very effective in adapting quickly to the situation and finding alternative markets for its products,“ he said, adding: „There were short-term negative impacts, but the search for alternative markets by Chinese firms led to an overall positive outcome.“
Innovation-driven growth, the engine of the world economy
China will remain the engine of the world economy, driven by innovation that promotes quality development and enables developing countries to achieve sustainable growth. According to the World Intellectual Property Organization's 2025 report, China has made it into the top ten of the Global Innovation Index for the first time.
„By the end of 2025, China remains the main driver of the global economy, with its contribution shifting from its role as the world's factory to a leader in advanced technology and green energy,“ He told Joseph Matthews, senior professor at BELTEI International University in Cambodia.
„By opening its markets at a time when the US was restricting access, China saved many countries from economic disaster,“ Swana added. He noted that the country is moving towards high-tech and technology-intensive jobs and is playing a key role in supporting developing countries in innovation, science and technology.
„By prioritizing infrastructure development and technological innovation, China offers developing countries practical tools to build sustainable growth and achieve real economic autonomy,“ He told Herman Tiu Laurel, president of the Asian Century Philippines Strategic Studies Institute in Manila.
„China has helped redefine the global agenda around quality development and win-win cooperation,“ He added.
