Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met with a delegation led by Rajesh Subramaniam, chairman of the board of the U.S.-China Business Council (USCBC), in Beijing on Wednesday. The two sides exchanged views on Sino-U.S. economic and trade relations and the operations of U.S. businesses in China.
Wang pointed out that despite past challenges, the facts show that China and the United States remain important economic and trade partners.
The strategies of "decoupling" and "breaking supply chains" do not work, he said, and the key to resolving differences is equal dialogue and consultation.
Wang said that under the leadership of the two heads of state, China and the US reached the Geneva Consensus and the London Framework, and the economic and trade teams of the two countries held talks in Stockholm over the past two days.
He expressed the hope that the US side would continue to work with China to maintain stable, healthy and sustainable development of bilateral economic and trade relations.
Wang reiterated that opening up to the world is China's basic state policy and that China's doors will only continue to open more. At the same time, he stressed that China's policy on the use of foreign investment has not changed and will not change.
Pointing to China's vast consumer market, growth potential and innovative vitality, Wang welcomed enterprises from all countries, including those in the US, to invest in China and share the development opportunities here.
Subramaniam said USCBC welcomes the ongoing dialogue between the economic and trade teams of both governments and the positive results that have been achieved.
He noted that China has sent a positive signal regarding its commitment to further reform and opening up, which has contributed to boosting market confidence.
Subramaniam affirmed that USCBC and its member companies remain committed to a long-term presence in China and will do their best to play a constructive role in expanding Sino-US economic and trade cooperation.
