The Chinese film industry closed 2025 on a high note. According to an announcement by the China Film Administration, total cinema sales reached 51.832 billion yuan (approximately US$7.4 billion).
Attendance at the city's cinemas increased significantly and a total of 1.238 billion tickets. Domestic films dominated the market with sales 41.293 billion yuan, accounting for nearly 80 % of total cinema revenue.
Surpassed the 100 million yuan mark in 2025 51 films, of which 33 domestic hits, confirming the strength of Chinese production. The cinema infrastructure has grown by 2219 new screening rooms, bringing the total number of screens across the country to 93 187.
Films have become more accessible in regions outside the cities where the 8.01 million public projections with total audience attendance approximately 394 million people.
A strong moment was the 2025 New Year's Eve movie season, when sales exceeded 5.3 billion yuan, the second highest result in China's history for this period.
The year 2025 was characterised by the strong success of animated films. Four animated titles were among top 10 of the year, including „Ne Zha 2“, „Zootopia 2“, „Nobody“ and „Boonie Bears: Future Reborn“.
Overall, the year 2025 showed a steady growth of the Chinese film industry. More diverse content and the strength of animation have contributed to the vitality of the market, and domestic films are increasingly reaching audiences beyond China's borders, confirming the growing global influence of Chinese cinema.
