China's top political adviser Wang Huning paid an official visit to Laos and attended events marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. During his visit, Wang Huning met with Laotian leaders, including General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, National Assembly President Saysomphone Phomvihane, and Lao National Development Front President Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune.
Wang Huning said that China is ready to work with Laos to implement the strategic consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, support each other on issues of core interests, including the Taiwan issue, and further deepen cooperation in building a high-standard China-Laos community with a shared future. Wang Huning also briefed Lao officials on the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
The Lao leadership reaffirmed its firm adherence to the One China principle, its opposition to interference in China's internal affairs, and appreciated China's long-term support. It stated that bilateral relations are at their best level in history and expressed its readiness to strengthen strategic coordination, practical cooperation, exchange of experiences in state administration, and parliamentary interaction.
During his visit, Wang Huning also attended Laos National Day celebrations, laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, visited Vientiane Station on the China-Laos Railway, and attended a ceremony marking the fourth anniversary of its operation.
