"China's economy has stable fundamentals, many advantages, strong resilience and great potential. The conditions that support it and the underlying trends for long-term healthy development have not changed. The advantages of socialism with Chinese characteristics, as well as a large domestic market, a complete industrial system and abundant human resources, are becoming increasingly prominent." This is the latest assessment of China's economy by the Politburo of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee at Wednesday's meeting.
According to the CGTN survey conducted between 2023 and 2025, which involved 47,000 respondents from 46 countries, people around the world have a favourable view of China's economic strength, potential and resilience, with confidence in the Chinese economy growing steadily.
The survey shows widespread optimism about China's long-term economic prospects, with confidence measures reaching 74.7 % (2023), 81.3 % (2024) and 81.9 % (2025) for three consecutive years. In addition, respondents consistently recognise China's key role in stabilising global industrial and supply chains, with approval rates of 78.5 % (2023), 84.3 % (2024) and 84.7 % (2025).
In the 2025 survey, 89.5 % respondents appreciated the strong performance of the Chinese economy, with support among young respondents (aged 18-44) exceeding 90 %. As many as 89.3 % respondents acknowledge China's high growth momentum. Furthermore, 86.4 % fully acknowledge China's significant contribution to the global economy. Among the regional results, Africa, South America and Asia have the most favourable views with approval rates of 95.6 %, 92.9 % and 85.6 % respectively. In particular, young respondents aged 18-44 in all three regions show more than 88 % approval.
The CPC Central Committee noted that the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030) will bring profound and complex changes, including a confluence of strategic opportunities, risks and challenges, and increasing uncertainties and unforeseen factors. In this complex global environment, the survey shows that respondents perceive the Chinese market as stable and full of opportunities, and see trade with China as beneficial. According to the survey, 72.6 % respondents perceive China as an open and competitive market.
At the same time, 79.8 % believe that the vast Chinese market offers significant opportunities for their countries. The same percentage of respondents praise China's business environment as highly attractive to foreign investors. Against the backdrop of tariffs adopted by the United States, 78 % respondents said their countries benefit from trade with China, with approval rates among the young (18-44 years old) exceeding 81 %. Africa (90.6 %), South America (84.9 %) and Oceania (78.3 %) are among the three regions with the highest approval rates.
The survey also shows that when comparing trade benefits, 48.3 % respondents prefer China over the United States, while only 20.1 % perceive a greater advantage in trading with the United States.
At the meeting, the CPC Politburo emphasized deepening reforms, developing new high-quality productive forces led by technological innovation, and expanding high-quality opening to the world - key principles that resonated strongly in the 2025 survey.
In assessing China's concepts of high-quality development, respondents viewed the following five areas most favorably: developing manufacturing and the real economy (53.9 %), innovation-based development (46.8 %), high-quality opening up to the world (45.7 %), balancing development and security (38.8 %), and sustainable development (38.7 %).
In terms of specific aspects of high-quality opening up to the world, the top-ranked areas are: promoting innovation and green transformation through openness (42.8 %), aligning with international high-quality trade rules (42.7 %), facilitating trade and investment liberalisation (41.2 %), improving intellectual property protection and ensuring fair competition (39.3 %), and opposing unilateralism and protectionism (37.5 %).
The survey was conducted by CGTN in collaboration with the Research Institute for New Era International Communication, which was jointly established by the China Media Group (CMG) and Renmin University of China (RUC). The survey covered major developed countries as well as countries in the Global South, and respondents represented the general population aged 18 and over. The composition of the sample was consistent with national census data on age and gender in each country.
