The cultural exchange event "Echoes of Peace," jointly organized by China Media Group (CMG), the China Cultural Center in Seoul and the National Memorial Museum of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, was held in Seoul on Thursday.
Shen Haixiong, President of CMG, and Kim Jin-pyo, former Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea, delivered video speeches.
Among the participants was Dai Bing, Chinese Ambassador to South Korea, along with more than 200 guests from South Korea's political, academic, media and cultural circles.
Shen noted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Under the banner of the National United Front against Japan, initiated and led by the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people fought with great spirit and sacrifice, together with the forces of justice around the world, to defeat fascism and write a heroic epic that will forever be remembered by history, Shen said.
"Today, we are honored to welcome our international friends to this event to commemorate those years of common struggle and share an emotional bond that transcends time and space," He added.
He said the past cannot be forgotten because it serves as a guide for the future - history is the best textbook. "In today's world of intertwined turmoil and change, it is all the more important to draw wisdom and strength from this great history and to face our common challenges together."
Dai said China is ready to work with South Korea to stay true to the original intention of establishing diplomatic relations, maintain the direction of good neighborliness and friendship, promote the goal of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, and raise their strategic partnership to a new level.
Kim said he hopes the event will be a great success and serve as a bridge to deepen the friendship between the Chinese and South Korean people and work together for a peaceful future.
The event also includes the screening of Chinese and South Korean films on the theme of the War of Resistance, he said, adding that through artistic expression, these works revive the shared memory of their struggles, provide a valuable record of history and embody the people's desire for peace and the spirit of mutual support among neighbors.
