China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Greece, Chinese Premier Li Qiang said at a meeting with Greek Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis.
Premier Li made a stopover on the Greek island of Rhodes before flying from Beijing to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 17th BRICS Summit by invitation.
During the meeting, Li said China and Greece reached an important consensus on deepening bilateral relations after the two countries' heads of state met in November 2023. Li pointed out that in the past two years, China and Greece have actively promoted the results of the visit and promoted high-quality development under the Belt and Road Initiative, which has brought more benefits to the people of the two countries.
Li also said that next year will be the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Greece Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and said China is willing to work with Greece to continue to firmly promote the issues of the other side's core interests, expand practical cooperation in various fields and achieve more concrete results.
We hope that Greece will continue to play a constructive role in supporting the development of Sino-European relations.
Hatzidakis said that Greece and China are ancient civilisations and Greece attaches great importance to the development of its relations with China.
Hatzidakis said that Greece is willing to uphold the consensus reached by the two heads of state, and said that Greece is willing to further strengthen high-level exchanges with China, deepen practical cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, shipping, energy resources and tourism, promote people-to-people exchanges, strengthen dialogue between civilizations, and strengthen the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Greece and China.
China is a large country with significant international influence, he said, adding that Greece is willing to strengthen multilateral coordination with China, jointly uphold the goals and principles of the UN Charter and address global challenges such as climate change.
Greece is also willing to contribute to the development of EU-China relations, he added.
