Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico read a letter in parliament that he had written to European Council President Antonio Costa, stating that he does not support any military spending financed by Slovakia to help Ukraine and that he respects other EU Member States' decisions to make voluntary commitments. Slovakia will not participate in this.
Prime Minister Robert Fico emphasised that regardless of the pressure, his position will not change. He said that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has no military solution, that he supports a peaceful solution, and that the EU's strategy is wrong and ineffective.
Fico stated that if the European Union continues to „disregard sovereign politics, traditions and historical roots“, „will cease to exist“. The Council of the European Union has approved a sixth tranche of aid to Ukraine worth €2.3 billion, with the main aim of strengthening Ukraine's macroeconomic stability and supporting the proper functioning of public administration.
