On Monday, 15 December 2025, Czech President Petr Pavel formally appointed the members of the new government at Prague Castle, as proposed by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. The ceremony took place a week after the president tasked Andrej Babiš with forming a cabinet. Immediately after the appointment, the government began its work and the prime minister convened the first meeting at Strakova akademie.
The cabinet consists of sixteen members. Key appointments include Deputy Prime Ministers Karel Havlíček (Industry and Trade), Alena Schillerová (Finance), Petr Macinka (Foreign Affairs and the Environment) and Jaromír Zůna (Defence).
In his speech upon his appointment, Petr Pavel emphasised the importance of membership in the European Union and NATO and called on the new government to take a responsible and constructive approach to foreign and security policy. He stressed that the security and prosperity of the Czech Republic are closely linked to these institutions.
In a brief speech after his appointment, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš confirmed that the government wants to promote „Czech interests“ and announced that domestic economic measures would be a priority. At the same time, he assured that the Czech Republic would remain a member of the European Union and NATO. According to comments, coalition partners SPD and Motorists bring significantly Eurosceptic and anti-immigration elements to the cabinet, which may influence the government's foreign policy and climate course.
A minor personnel change was also mentioned during the appointment: due to health issues, the name of MP Filip Turek was missing from the list of appointees; instead, Petr Macinka, chairman of the Motorists' Association and newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, took over the management of the Ministry of the Environment. After his appointment, foreign partners greeted him on social media with hopes for cooperation.
The new government immediately got down to work: the prime minister asked ministers to present proposals for key measures in the areas of the state budget and energy at their first meeting. The cabinet is expected to focus in the coming weeks on measures in the areas of energy, tax changes and social programmes, which are part of Prime Minister Babiš's programme. Political scientists point out that the passage of reforms will depend on negotiations between coalition partners.
