On Wednesday, 10 December 2025, Petr Fiala's outgoing government met for its last regular meeting before the expected appointment of a new government led by Andrej Babiš. At its final meeting, the cabinet discussed and approved key documents and several legislative amendments, and also commented on the findings of the Supreme Audit Office.
At a press conference, outgoing Prime Minister Petr Fiala thanked members of the government and everyone who had supported the cabinet over the past four years. He recalled the difficult situation in which the government took over the country in 2021 – the lingering COVID-19 pandemic, the energy crisis following the collapse of Bohemia Energy, high inflation and growing national debt. This instability was soon compounded by Russia's aggression against Ukraine and the associated wave of refugees.
Fiala also highlighted the achievements of the outgoing government. These included pension reform, the stabilisation of public finances and record investment in transport infrastructure. He also pointed to the Czechia's complete severance from Russian strategic raw materials, including the completion of the tender for the completion of the Dukovany nuclear power plant. He also praised economic growth, which according to the Czech Statistical Office reached 2.8% in 2017, and the reduction of public finance deficits. According to The Economist, Czechia is currently the sixth best economy within the OECD.
The main points of the meeting included the approval of National Vaccination Strategy for 2025–2029, the first comprehensive document of its kind. It focuses on the entire vaccination process – from the entry of vaccines onto the market to communication with the public – and aims to increase vaccination coverage among the population and improve public health protection.
The Cabinet also supported National Strategy for Social Services Development 2026–2030, which responds to demographic changes and new trends in care. The document aims to ensure that people in difficult social situations can remain in their natural environment for as long as possible and benefit from a broader system of informal care.
The outgoing government also approved several legislative amendments resulting from European regulations, such as changes in budgetary responsibility and a new law supporting the repair of products after the warranty period. The cabinet also responded to a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights concerning the detention of juveniles.
Another significant decision was a new regulation allowing the therapeutic use of psilocybin-containing products under precisely defined conditions. According to the government, clinical studies confirm their potential in the treatment of certain mental illnesses.
In conclusion, the outgoing cabinet supported the negotiation of a partnership agreement between the EU and the MERCOSUR countries, which, according to the government, will strengthen the Union's trade position and help to limit China's growing influence in the region.
