Overview of the latest economic events in the Czech Republic

The Prague Stock Exchange strengthened again and further improved its historical maximum. The PX index closed at 2,559.36 point, representing growth of 1.45 %. Shares became the most significant drivers. Erste Bank, which rose by more than 2.5 %, and insurance company shares VIG, which scored more than 6.5 %. The strong performance of the Prague market reflects increased investor activity and a stable domestic environment.

Chinese society Gold Cup Electric Apparatus Co., Ltd. will build its first European production plant on the site of a former chocolate factory in Planá near Mariánské Lázně. The investment exceeds two billion crowns and focuses on the production of magnetic conductors, which can significantly strengthen the domestic electrical engineering and export sector.

Foreign investment

The Office for the Protection of Competition has approved key acquisitions in the arms and chemical industries. Group Colt CZ can complete the purchase of the manufacturer Synthesia Nitrocellulose For 22 billion crowns and at the same time the acquisition of the division Synthesia Power For 1.4 billion Czech crowns. The transaction will enable Colt CZ to strengthen its control over the supply chain in the area of strategic materials and energy.

Investment fund Thoma Bravo completed the acquisition of a software company PROS Holdings worth approximately 1.4 billion USD, thereby further expanding its portfolio of technology companies. Pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk completed the acquisition of the company Akero Therapeutics for approximately 4.7 billion USD, which strengthens its position in the field of liver disease treatment.

Eli Lilly completed the acquisition of a biotechnology company Adverum, thereby expanding its activities in the field of gene therapies. In the fintech sector, the group acquired Airwallex majority stake in Indonesian payment licence PT Skye Sab, which opens up broader opportunities for the company in Southeast Asia.

In the area of asset management, the company announced Nomura acquisition of the American and European public assets divisions of the group Macquarie, thereby strengthening its portfolio in the area of investment services.

Significant events outside the Czech Republic with global impact

The European Commission today launched a formal investigation against the company. Google due to suspected breaches of competition rules in the use of online content for artificial intelligence purposes. The investigation could result in a heavy fine and has the potential to affect the functioning of digital platforms and the AI market across the European Union.

Oil prices rose slightly. North Sea Brent crude oil hovered around 62.03 USD per barrel. Nevertheless, the market remains under pressure due to persistent concerns about oversupply and the expected slowdown in global demand in the coming months.
