Overview of the latest economic events in the Czech Republic
The Prague Stock Exchange moved to its all-time high for the sixth consecutive session as the index PX rose by 0.18 % to a record 2750.97 points. The growth was mainly driven by shares energy company ČEZ, which benefited from stable electricity prices and expectations of solid economic results. This development eases inflationary pressures and supports consumer demand.
From a macroeconomic perspective, the development of public finances is worth noting. The state will collect a total of CZK 1.54 trillion in taxes in 2025, which represents an annual increase of 8.1 %. Corporate and personal income tax collections grew fastest, reflecting the relatively good health of the corporate sector and the labour market.
Foreign investment
Foreign investment activity remains exceptionally strong in early 2026. Czech Investment Group DRFG entered the Croatian real estate market with the acquisition of the ZTC shopping centre in Rijeka for more than one billion crowns.
In the industrial sector, the German concern completed Knorr-Bremse takeover of a Swiss company Duagon Group, strengthening its technology portfolio in the rail transport sector.
American investment group KKR also completed the takeover of a sports private equity firm Arctos for approximately one billion dollars, strengthening its exposure to the sports and entertainment industry.
Another significant transaction is the acquisition of TOFWERK AG a Swiss manufacturer of analytical instruments by the company Bruker Corporation, as well as buying part of the space business L3Harris Technologies investor AE Industrial Partners.

Meanwhile, the European Commission is stepping up regulatory pressure on technology companies. US company X Corp billionaire Elon Musk has received an official request for information regarding the Grok chatbot. Brussels' response comes in the wake of a scandal in which the system generated sexualised content, and the EC has ordered the firm to keep all relevant documents related to Grok until the end of 2026, a move that could have a major impact on the future regulation of artificial intelligence in the European Union and globally.
