Guo Jiakun, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, addressed a regular press conference to condemn the US blockade of Cuba. He said that the Chinese side had noted the official position of the Cuban Foreign Ministry on the issue.
According to Guo Jia Kun, the situation of Cuba shows that the long-standing blockade is a harsh pressure on a peaceful country that does not harbour hostility towards any state. At the same time, he points out that it is US policy that is the main cause of the island's current economic difficulties.
China, he said, is paying close attention to the issue and is clearly opposed to the continued blockade. Beijing calls on the United States to stop denying the Cuban people their right to survival and development, not to threaten peace and stability in the region, to respect international law and to immediately lift all sanctions and the blockade against Cuba.
At the same time, Guo Jiakun said that China will continue to provide Cuba with all possible support and assistance. He expressed confidence that under the firm leadership of the Cuban political party and government, the Cuban people would overcome the current difficult period.
