The Chinese envoy called for strengthening multilateralism and actively pursuing common security. Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the UN, made the statement at a Security Council briefing chaired by the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
According to him, the current global security situation continues to deteriorate: geopolitical tensions are rising, local conflicts are increasing, unilateralism and protectionism are intensifying, and security threats – both traditional and non-traditional – are intertwining and accumulating.
In this context, he believes it is crucial for the UN and regional organisations, including the OSCE, to further deepen their cooperation and actively contribute to maintaining international peace and security.
Fu Cong also called on the international community to promote dialogue and consultation, reject the Cold War mentality and bloc confrontation, support peaceful negotiations, and engage in mediation based on the needs and will of the countries involved. According to him, the parties to the conflict should build mutual trust, resolve disputes through dialogue, and jointly strengthen security.
During the discussion, many Security Council members mentioned the situation in Ukraine. Fu emphasised that China's position on this issue has been consistent and absolutely clear for a long time. „Dialogue and negotiations are the only viable way to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.“ He said.
In conclusion, he stated that China calls on all parties involved to contribute to the creation of a balanced, effective and sustainable European security framework.
