WASHINGTON – The American government has unveiled a new internet portal America.gov, designed to significantly simplify citizens' access to information and services provided by the federal government. The platform was officially launched on September 29, 2026, by President Donald Trump in Washington, and is intended to serve as a single digital entry point for accessing federal services.

The new system utilizes artificial intelligence and allows users to ask questions in plain language. America.gov then searches for answers from official government sources and provides links to the original information from individual agencies. According to the operator, the General Services Administration, the goal is to eliminate the need to navigate through a large number of separate websites of federal institutions.

Currently, the portal primarily serves to search for and explain information. Users can, for example, ask how to change their address with the U.S. Postal Service, how to obtain a passport, how to apply for a Social Security card, when one is eligible for Medicare, or how to register a new business. America.gov states that the answers are based exclusively on official federal, state, and local government websites.

A significant part of the project is the gradual expansion of practical functions. During 2027, the platform is expected to also enable users to fill out forms, track the progress of individual requests, and organize government actions in one place. Planned services include applying for a passport and tracking its processing, changing names with multiple agencies, searching for jobs in the federal government, or comparing prices of certain medications.

The White House also emphasizes the protection of personal data. According to official information from America.gov, creating an account is not required for searching, and that users' personal data are not collected or stored. The portal itself currently does not process applications or make decisions about eligibility for benefits; the final decision remains the responsibility of the relevant agency.

The project is part of a broader effort by the American administration to digitize federal services and unify their accessibility. On September 29, President Trump signed an executive order that calls for the gradual involvement of relevant federal agencies and the integration of the system Login.gov.

America.gov represents a new model for citizen interaction with the federal government, based on searching using natural language and gradually linking services from individual institutions. According to the American government, the portal is expected to evolve from providing information to directly processing an increasing number of administrative tasks.
