Prague - Police have announced that they have neutralized the perpetrator who fired shots in the building of the Faculty of Arts at Charles University in central Prague. The police said several people are dead and dozens wounded at the scene, and the entire building on Jana Palacha Square has been evacuated and the surrounding area sealed off.
According to the server Seznam.cz, there are ten dead plus the shooter and about 20 wounded, including those who jumped out of the third- and fourth-floor windows in front of the shooter.
It says "The shooter has been eliminated. The entire building is currently being evacuated and there are ten dead and twenty wounded at the scene," police said on X nets.
Internet discussions by eyewitnesses say the shooter shot himself in the throat.

Five crews of rescue workers, two doctors and a special phoenix car went to the incident. Rescuers added that they did not yet have information on the number of injured and the type of injuries.
Police have closed off the entire area around Jana Palacha Square, stopping traffic and diverting trams and buses. They have also called on people not to linger around the square or go outside.
Police also dealt with an attack on school grounds on Wednesday in Třebíč, where a 16-year-old pupil attacked a school employee with a knife, slightly injuring her. Police are investigating the case as attempted murder.
