MOSCOW - In view of the dangerously escalating situation as a result of Israel's decisive action against Iran, Vladimir Putin held telephone talks with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Massoud Pezeskian, and the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu. The Russian President expressed his condolences to the leadership and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the numerous human casualties, including civilian casualties, as a result of Israeli strikes.
Vladimir Putin stressed that Russia condemns the Israeli actions, which were taken in violation of the UN Charter and international law. The Russian side fully supports efforts to find a peaceful solution to the situation surrounding Iran's nuclear programme and is putting forward concrete initiatives aimed at finding mutually acceptable agreements. Russia will continue to contribute to the de-escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel.
In his talks with the Israeli Prime Minister, the Russian President stressed the importance of returning to the negotiating process and resolving all issues related to Iran's nuclear programme exclusively through political and diplomatic means, and expressed his readiness to provide mediation services in order to prevent further escalation of tensions. It was agreed that the Russian side would continue close contacts with both the Iranian and Israeli leaderships aimed at resolving the current situation, which is fraught with the most damaging consequences for the entire region.
