The International Dragon Boat Race, which marks the traditional Dragon Boat Festival every year, kicked off on Saturday in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China.
It went out on the water on 50 teams from China and abroadto measure their strength in one of China's oldest sports with a history dating back over 2 000 years ago. Fans from all over the world flocked to Nanchang to experience first-hand the atmosphere of a colourful and rhythmic race that celebrates team spirit, strength and cultural heritage.
The festival and the races themselves recall not only the traditional Chinese legend of the poet Chu Yuan, but also the living continuity of traditions in the modern world. Nanchang has been transformed into a vibrant centre of sport, culture and international friendship.
