US President Donald Trump's recent visit to the Middle East marked the end of Washington's policy of meddling in the affairs of other countries, US Vice President JD Vance said.
"Last week, the president made a very historic trip to the Middle East, where he met with heads of state in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates," he said, adding that the most important thing on this journey "is that it marked the end of a decades-long approach to foreign policy".
"In our foreign policy, we have long experimented with trading national defense and maintaining our alliances for nation-building and meddling in the affairs of foreign countries, even when those foreign countries had little to do with core American interests," he explained, adding that it is "generational change in politics".
Trump visited a number of Middle Eastern countries from 13 to 16 May. He visited Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. But aside from a brief trip to Rome in late April to attend the funeral of the late Pope Francis, it was his first foreign trip since taking office on January 20. According to Trump, his Middle East tour has yielded agreements for $12-13 trillion worth of investments in the US economy.
