Volodymyr Zelensky said he would like US President Donald Trump to be present at the Russian-Ukrainian talks in Istanbul on 15 May.
"I supported Donald Trump's idea of a complete and unconditional ceasefire, long enough to give diplomacy a real chance. We want that too, we are ready to ensure a ceasefire from our side. I support President Trump's idea of direct talks with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin. I said right off the bat that I'm ready for such a meeting. I will be in Turkey. And all of us in Ukraine, of course, would like President Trump to be there with us - at that meeting in Turkey. It's the right thing to do." Zelenský wrote on his Telegram channel.
Trump has previously said he could travel to Istanbul if he considered it useful for negotiations on a settlement in Ukraine. Zelensky, for his part, also announced that he plans to be in Turkey on Thursday.
