Chinese President Xi Jinping called for strengthening unity between the military and the civilian sector and stressed the need to maintain the leading role of the Communist Party of China (CPC), promote reform and innovation, and improve relevant policies and mechanisms.
Xi, who is also by the Secretary General of the CPC and chairman Central Military Commission, made his announcement through an instruction at a national conference dedicated to recognizing model cities and counties promoting military-civilian cooperation.
Key points of the instruction
Xi marked cooperation between the military and the civilian sector for "a noble tradition" a "a unique political advantage"of the party, the army and the people. He called on..:
- party committees and governments all levels to nurture military development, address soldiers' concerns and create a positive atmosphere that supports national defense,
- Armyto promote local development and contribute to the prosperity of the people through concrete actions,
- to strengthen cooperation between the military and the civilian sectorto consolidate a strong unity between the government, the army and the people.
Government support
Premier Li Qiang, a member of the CPC Politburo Standing Committee, stressed at the conference the need to follow Xi's instructions and open new avenues of support between the military and the civilian sector. He called on regions and authorities to strengthen of defensive awareness and modernisation of the armed forces.
