Chinese Ambassador to the US Xie Feng said on Saturday that China firmly rejects a tariff or trade war of any kind and will take strong countermeasures if necessary. At the Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Open Day event, he recalled that Chinese civilization emphasizes the common good and prosperity of the world.
Xie used the comparison to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)that treats not only the symptoms but also the causes of disease. Similarly, he said, states must address the main causes of the global growth slowdownand not just "fight for a piece of the pie", but increasing it in the long term.
He stressed that globalisation, connectivity and mutual benefits are the key to prosperity. He warned that Customs barriers a disruption of supply chains lead to shortages of goods, rising prices and worsening living standards. The solution is a smooth flow of the world economythat will ensure its vitality.
Xie also pointed out the resilience of the Chinese economy:
- First quarter: GDP growth 5.4 % year-on-year, the top among major economies.
- Record volume imports and exportswhereby over 50 % shops accrues to the States Belt and trails.
- The success of events like China International Consumer Products Expo a Canton Fair, where contracts for more than 32 billion USD.
Xie concluded by saying that China will remain an open market, removes barriers and brings more to the world stability and opportunities via high quality development and opening up to the world.
