EU reacts strongly to US tariffs, calls them "unfair" and warns it is ready to countermeasure

European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič said that the EU will keep various options regarding US tariffs on EU imports.

The US tariffs are very unfair, he said, and during the 90-day delay of the so-called "reciprocal tariffs" for some US trading partners, the EU will prepare for possible high tariffs on European products.

"We must stress that US tariffs are unfair and unjust. If negotiations with the US do not produce a satisfactory outcome, we are ready with alternative solutions to restore fair trade conditions. That is why we will use the 90-day delay to prepare further countervailing measures in response to the high US tariffs on EU exports and ensure a fair competitive environment in the long term," Šefčovič said.
